Arrested Rep Suspends Campaign

Representative Chris Collins (R-NY), who was arrested on Wednesday as was reported @ The News Blender has suspended his re-election campaign. 

Collins who was an early supporter of President Donald Trump, has been indicted (PDF) on insider trading charges. 

His son Cameron Collins, along with Cameron’s future father-in-law have also been charged with the additional charges of wire fraud, and making false statements to the FBI. 

Collins has plead not guilty. 

On Wednesday he told reporters in a brief statement, he was still seeking re-election and that the charges were “meritless.” 

Saturday just days after his arrest and not guilty plea, Collins has suspended his bid to seek reelection issuing the following statement in part, he talks about democrats being “laser focused,” on winning back the House to impeach President Trump. He adds, “They would like nothing more than to elect an ‘Impeach Trump’ Democrat in this District, which is something that neither our country or my party can afford.” He goes on to say that he will, “fill out,” the remainder of his term to, “assure that our community maintains its vote in Congress to support President Trump’s agenda to create jobs, eliminate regulations, reduce the size of government, address immigration and lower taxes.” He concludes by saying he will “continue to fight the meritless charges,” and says he looks forward to, “having my good name cleared of any wrongdoing.”
