Humor – Title Bout

Eddie Murphy as Gumby. Saturday Night Live.

Every year, there are awards given for the worst examples of things.  There are the Razzies, for awful movies.  The Green Slime Awards, for the worst science fiction, fantasy and horror.  The Edward Bulwer-Lytton contest, for the worst opening sentence (he’s famous for creating “It was a dark and stormy night.”)

Among the awful are items whose titles are simply bad.  They are inevitably compiled into lists like the 50 worst movie titles or the Diagram Prize for odd book title or

Parody of existing cultural items – pop culture or not – is also well established.  We’ve got everything from The Critic to UHF to Funny or Die which have offered their own takes on things.  One of my favorites comes from Saturday Night Live:

The examples are plentiful.  On the parody side we have Schoolhouse Rock: Executive Order.  Speed 2: Speed Reading.  Wheel of Fish.   On the awful side we have Who’s Your Caddy?, The Commuter Pig Keeper and He Hit Me (and it felt like a kiss).  That last was a song written for The Crystals and produced by Phil Spector in 1962, so make your own call as to just how deep the depths of terrible are for it.

Still, after reading through some of these, I thought I’d see if anyone else had some they’d like to add.  Curious George Gets Existential?  Woodrot and Me?  Conan the Dick?  Mutiny on the Bounty 2: More Mutiny?
