CNN — In September of 2017 President Trump after having visited France and experiencing a military parade expressed his desire for a U.S. Military Parade, “And to a large extent, because of what I witnessed, we may do something like that on July 4th in Washington, down Pennsylvania Avenue. We’re going to have to try and top it.”

AP News — In March of 2018 the Pentagon released a “planning memo,” that the cost of such a parade would be an estimated $10-30 million and that the parade wouldn’t feature any tanks.

CNBC — As was covered @ The News Blender on Thursday, CNBC news  reported that not only had the cost skyrocketed to $92 million dollars, but that it would also feature, “approximately eight tanks, as well as other armored vehicles, including Bradleys, Strykers and M113s.”

Late Thursday AP News reported that the Military Parade has been postponed according to Col. Rob Manning a Pentagon spokesmen, who said that the White House and the military had, “now agreed to explore opportunities in 2019.” The Parade had been scheduled for November 10th, 2018.

Earlier another Pentagon spokesperson this time Lt. Col Jamie Davis told the AP that any cost estimates were all, “pre-decisional [sic],” and that the Defense department was still planning the parade and that “final details are still being developed.”

The AP explains that one veterans group, the American Legion, spoke out against the parade, via spokesperson, National Commander Denise Rohan, saying, “The American Legion appreciates that our President wants to show in a dramatic fashion our nation’s support for our troops. However, until such time as we can celebrate victory in the War on Terrorism and bring our military home, we think the parade money would be better spent fully funding the Department of Veteran Affairs and giving our troops and their families the best care possible.”
