Larry Kudlow apologizes to Nikki Haley over Russia sanctions remark

The new White House economic adviser apologized Tuesday to U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley after suggesting she was suffering from “momentary confusion” when she announced over the weekend that new sanctions against Russia were imminent.
Haley had fired back at Larry Kudlow, saying, “With all due respect, I don’t get confused.”
A White House official said Kudlow, the director of the National Economic Council, called Haley to apologize Tuesday afternoon in an effort to mend fences. The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to describe private discussions.
Senate panel moving ahead with Mueller bill despite McConnell opposition

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said his committee will take up legislation to protect special counsel Robert Mueller despite opposition from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
McConnell said he has no intention of bringing the bill up for a floor vote during an interview with Fox News on Tuesday.
“I’m the one who decides what we take to the floor, that’s my responsibility as the majority leader, and we will not be having this on the floor of the Senate,” he told Fox News.
Cruz, O’Rourke Too Close To Call In Texas Senate Race

The closely watched U.S. Senate race in Texas is too close to call, with 47 percent for Republican incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz and 44 percent for U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, his Democratic challenger, according to a Quinnipiac University Poll released today.
British PM May dealt embarrassing Brexit defeat in parliament’s upper house

The Prime Minister, who has struggled to unite her Conservative party over Brexit, has said Britain will leave the EU’s single market and customs union after it quits the bloc next March so that London can forge its own free trade deals.
That stance widened divisions within the party and raised the prospect of defeat in the upper House of Lords, where the Conservatives do not command a majority.
