Sources: Second Trump Org employee discussed immunity deal

A second Trump Organization employee discussed a potential immunity deal with the federal prosecutors who charged Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney, according to people familiar with the matter

That employee ultimately did not receive immunity after prosecutors in the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York decided against granting such protection. The person was not called to testify before the grand jury, the people familiar with the matter said.

The employee’s identity couldn’t be determined by CNN. Spokespeople for the US Attorney’s office and Trump Organization declined to comment.

Inside Stephen Miller’s hostile takeover of immigration policy

Miller’s hard-charging approach to the discussion offers a glimpse into just one of the many tactics — psychological and otherwise — he has used to secure an iron grip on Trump’s immigration policies, surviving blowups such as the initial blowback over the president’s travel ban and the more recent fracas over the migrant family separation policy.

One major reason Miller remains a powerful player on immigration is that he’s so close to Trump, who agrees with many of his hard-line views. But according to nearly a dozen current and former U.S. officials and others who deal with migration, Miller also has managed to set the agenda on Trump’s signature campaign issue through another quality: sheer bureaucratic cunning.

Some Republicans Urge Attorney General to Remain in Job

Some top Republican lawmakers are urging Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resist any pressure to quit following criticism from President Trump, and to stay in the job at least through the midterm elections.

The same morning as Mr. Trump was venting his frustration at the Justice Department, five Republican senators met Mr. Sessions this past Thursday for breakfast in his personal dining room on the fifth floor of the department’s headquarters. Their message: hang in there despite Mr. Trump’s broadsides, according to senators and aides.

Mr. Trump has told one Republican lawmaker recently that he wanted to fire Mr. Sessions before the midterm elections, according to a person familiar with the matter, but Republicans say they are convinced that pushback from Capitol Hill and within the White House has persuaded Mr. Trump to stand down for now.

Michael Cohen is resigned to going to prison to protect his family

Michael Cohen’s stunning guilty plea last week ended months of speculation about the fate of President Donald Trump’s longtime personal lawyer.

And now, as Cohen waits for his sentencing hearing set for December, a source familiar with his thinking says “resignation” would be a fitting word to describe the 52-year-old’s mindset — acceptance that he is headed to prison in order to protect his family.

“He’s very resigned to doing the time. He’s resigned to the fact that he’s going to go to jail for some time,” the person said, adding that Cohen does not believe he will receive a presidential pardon from Trump.

Alex Jones Confronted By Caller Over Porn Spotted on His Phone

Alex Jones got caught with a porn tab this week. During an Infowars live shot, he showed his phone’s screen to the camera, and for a split second, all of his Safari browser tabs were visible.

“Naughty tbabe Marissa Minx relieved of cock hunger by stud,” read one of the tabs, containing a trans porn video starring Australian actress Marissa Minx.

On Wednesday, a caller into Infowars asked Jones bluntly: “What about the trans porn on your phone Alex, are you going to talk about that?”

Puerto Rico’s new Hurricane Maria death toll is 46 times higher than the government’s previous count

Puerto Rico’s government raised its official Hurricane Maria death toll to 2,975 on Tuesday in the wake of a new estimate from researchers.

The new figure is 46 times larger than the previous toll the Puerto Rican government released in December 2017, when officials said 64 people had died as a result of the storm.

It comes on the same day researchers from George Washington University revealed findings from a study on storm-related deaths commissioned by the US commonwealth’s government.

“This is unprecedented devastation,” Gov. Ricardo Rossello told reporters.

But the new death toll is only an approximation, not a concrete list of names, Rossello said.

Trump tariffs on Canadian newsprint to be reversed

An independent trade panel on Wednesday derailed the Trump administration’s push to impose tariffs on imports of newsprint from Canada, handing a significant win to U.S. newspapers, union groups and scores of lawmakers who pressed for the change.

The 5-0 decision by the U.S. International Trade Commission marks a significant win for newspapers that were reeling from increased costs of up to 30 percent for a core product. It also removes a prominent thorn in the bilateral relationship between the United States and its northern neighbor and comes as the two countries are working to resolve differences in NAFTA talks by the end of this week.

Trump warns evangelicals of ‘violence’ if GOP loses in the midterms

US President Donald Trump, facing scrutiny for hush money payments to a porn star and a former Playboy model, pleaded with evangelical leaders for political help during closed-door remarks on Monday, warning of dire consequences to their congregations should Republicans lose in November’s midterm elections.

“This November 6 election is very much a referendum on not only me, it’s a referendum on your religion, it’s a referendum on free speech and the First Amendment. It’s a referendum on so much,” Trump told the assemblage of pastors and other Christian leaders gathered in the State Dining Room, according to a recording from people in the room.

“It’s not a question of like or dislike, it’s a question that they will overturn everything that we’ve done and they will do it quickly and violently. And violently. There is violence. When you look at Antifa — these are violent people,” Trump said, describing what would happen should his voters fail to cast ballots. “You have tremendous power. You were saying, in this room, you have people who preach to almost 200 million people. Depending on which Sunday we’re talking about.”
