LT. COLONEL OLIVER NORTH POISED TO BECOME NRA PRESIDENT
“Most exciting news for NRA members since Charlton Heston Became President of Our Association,” Wayne LaPierre said.

DALLAS – Lt. Colonel Oliver North, USMC (Ret.) will become President of the National Rifle Association of America within a few weeks, a process the NRA Board of Directors initiated this morning.

NRA Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre was very excited about the choice and commented.  “Oliver North is a legendary warrior for American freedom, a gifted communicator and skilled leader.  In these times, I can think of no one better suited to serve as our President.”

North added that he was “honored to have been selected by the NRA Board” and he is “eager to hit the ground running”.

Oliver North famously became the central figure of the Iran-Contra affair, for his involvement in selling weapons to Iran.

This somewhat controversial pick has blown up Social Media and Oliver North (at the time of this writing) is the Top Trending Worldwide Topic on Twitter.

NRA Spokesperson Dana Loesch and others seem excited about the selection

Others… not so much

And a little bit of snark

Fox News reports that Oliver North has retired from their network effective immediately.
