On Saturday in Singapore speaking at the annual Shangri-La Dialogue security conference, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis offered sharp criticism to the Chinese governments continued militarization of the South China Sea.

The New York Times article quotes Mattis as saying, “Despite China’s claims to the contrary, the placement of these weapons systems is tied directly to military use for the purposes of intimidation and coercion.” The article spoke with a former deputy of national security affairs currently a professor of politics and international affairs at Princeton, Aaron L. Friedberg, who explained that the speech was probably meant to ease American allies’ fears, not just about regional threats, but about President Trump’s oft-changing foreign policy, “They don’t know what’s coming next,” Mr. Friedberg said. “There’s not much people even at Mattis’s levels can do about it.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has appointed States Attorney John Huber to investigate the FBI, Hillary Clinton, and Uranium One.

He deleted the first tweet because the word Counsel was misspelled.
