The New York Times article was written four days ago. The article explains that there are several factors as to why the applications are plunging, strong economy, baby boomers that have switched from disability to Social Security, and that from 2011-2015 based on media reporting SS offices began tightening up their requirements to apply and receive disability benefits.

CNN – On Friday night while traveling to Hilton Head, congressional candidate for South Carolina, Katie Arrington, was involved in serious car accident. She was riding in the car driven by her friend Jacqueline Goff, when another driver traveling the wrong direction struck the car, the driver of that vehicle died at the scene, Arrington is alert her campaign told CNN that she suffered, “a fracture to her back, broken ribs, and a partial collapse of the main artery in her legs. She will have to undergo major surgery to remove a portion of her small intestine and a portion of her colon, and will require a stent in the main artery in her legs.” Arrington is expected to remain in the hospital for at least two weeks. Goff also suffered serious injuries, but the extent is unknown at the time of this post.
