Deadline — Griffith Observatory, located in the foothills of Los Angels, California, was evacuated on Saturday about one p.m. west coast time, after an employee noticed a suspicious package on the grounds and alerted the park ranger service. The Los Angels Police Department arrived told hikers on nearby trails to evacuate. The package was deemed harmless and access was restored about four p.m. local time. The evacuation of the Observatory that has appeared in both feature films and countless television shows, came just four days after a brush fire charred twenty-five acres of land. Saturday was the first day of operation following that incident.
