ABC News reports that law enforcement officials told them the incident occurred Tuesday and Avenatti was arrested on Wednesday.
Avenatti entered the national spotlight by representing porn star Stormy Daniels aka Stephanie Clifford, who alleges she and then-businessman Trump had a sexual encounter in 2006. Daniels is suing President Trump over a nondisclosure agreement.
In 2016 Stormy Daniels was paid hush money in exchange for silence during the Presidential election about the encounter between her and President Trump.
Michael Cohen the one-time personal attorney for President Trump entered a plea deal where he claims he paid Daniels on behalf of the President, then candidate-Trump, at President Trump’s direction.
TMZ reports that one law enforcement source told them that Avenatti on Tuesday kicked his estranged wife, “out of the apartment,” and that according to the article is when the alleged domestic violence occurred. It’s also being reported that on Wednesday when she went to retrieve her belongings there was also a confrontation between the pair, with Avenatti saying as he ran into the apartment building, “She hit me first.” He apparently added, “This is bulls***, this is f***ing bulls***.”
The pair is said to have married in 2011 with Avenatti filing in 2017.
TMZ also notes they have been told Avenatti is currently in custody.
TMZ originally reported that the alleged victim was his estranged wife, according to CNN correspondent MJ Lee, via Twitter, his wife through her attorney is denying her involvement in the incident.
TMZ has now made note of the error.
