This is part of an ongoing series where I review some of the ads purchased by the Russians. In doing so I hope we can get a better understanding of what they were trying to do, and how to recognize it the next time we’re faced with propaganda.

If you want to follow along, the ads can all be downloaded here. The ads I’m using today came from the 2015-q3/2015-08 folder.

Names started dropping a lot more in the ads of August 2015. In some cases, like the ad in file p(1)0000058, they wished for the death of then-President Obama (note the last line of the ad’s text):

So who did the PatriotUS group support? According to the p(1)0000104 file, Governor Bobby Jindal:

Meanwhile, file p(1)0002553 had LQBT United riling against Mike Huckabee:

Black Matters wasn’t as concerned with national politicians, but certainly did name names. File p(1)0001953 compared activist Shaun King to Rachel Dolezal, criticizing them for “pretending to be black”:

I will share more interesting ads I come across in other posts. For now, enjoy this Open Thread and remember, we can beat the Russians by not hating one another.
