The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to get caught up in the spin cycle and let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.

This week’s Something Good is something as simple as a friendly wave and the impact the simplest act of kindness can have.

Tinney Davidson and her husband moved into a house near Highland Secondary School in British Columbia in 2007, CBC reports. She and her husband waved to the kids who passed their house on the way to school every morning. After her husband died, Tinney kept up the tradition, waving to the passing students from a chair near her front window, and eventually struck up friendships with many of the kids.

Mrs. Davidson, 88, will be moving to an assisted living facility and her friendly morning greetings to the neighborhood children will end. Saddened by Tinney’s upcoming departure, the teenagers planned a proper send off for their dear friend.

On April 26, the neighborhood kids – 400 of them – walked to the Davidson house and crowded into the front yard, with homemade signs and flowers in hand for the woman who has wished them well every morning for 12 years. They counted down from three and blew her a kiss as a group.

Mrs. Davidson was thrilled by the send off. Clapping and laughing, she called the gathering “lovely” and waved goodbye to her young friends. She told CBC, “I was shocked again that there’s so many kids that want to say goodbye to me.”

It’s funny how the simplest act of kindness blesses the giver as much as the receiver. The kindness that Tinney Davidson sent out into the world will grow and be passed on by the hundreds of students she touched with a smile and a wave.

Now it’s your turn… Tell me Something Good!
