Propaganda Watch: Russian Social Media Ads–6/30/19

This is part of an ongoing series where I review some of the ads purchased by the Russians. In doing so I hope we can get a better understanding of what they were trying to do, and how to recognize it the next time we’re faced with propaganda.

If you want to follow along, the ads can all be downloaded here. All of today’s ads can be found in the 2016-q1/2016-01 folder.

Here are the totals for January 2016:

  • Williams and Kalvin: 57
  • Stop Immigration: 19
  • Black Pride: 4
  • Veterans: 3
  • South United: 3
  • American Muslims: 2
  • Tea Party: 2
  • Pro-police: 1

It appears they have stopped posting LGBT-centered ads, at least for now. I’m not sure if this is permanent, or if they simply focused on establishing Williams and Kalvin, and feeding their anti-immigration group. Next week I’ll start on the February ads and we’ll get a clearer picture as to where they’re headed–if there is a clear direction at all.

THIS IS AN OPEN THREAD. Have a pleasant Sunday.
