Propaganda Watch: Russian Social Media Ads–10/19/19

This is part of an ongoing series where I review some of the ads purchased by the Russians. In doing so I hope we can get a better understanding of what they were trying to do, and how to recognize it the next time we’re faced with propaganda.

If you want to follow along, the ads can all be downloaded here. All of today’s ads can be found in the 2016-q2/2016-04 folder.

The Russian trolls wanted patriots to attend the American Crusade on April 17th, 2016, at the CNN building in Atlanta, as shown in ad p(1)0001235:

They tried again with ad p(1)0001435, but still, no click through:

I’ll admit, if the American Crusade looked as cool as it does in the image for p(1)0002367, I’d be tempted to go:

It does appear that the American Crusade didn’t happen in Atlanta on that day. There was, however, the Atlanta Comic Convention and the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s conference that day. So if someone did show up and found there was no actual protest to attend, at least they wouldn’t be bored.

THIS IS AN OPEN THREAD. Take care, and have a great Saturday.
