The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to get caught up in the spin cycle and let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.
This week our Something Good is a 93 year-old Pennsylvania man who works all year to make toys for kids.
Ed Higinbotham spends all year making hundreds of wooden horses, trucks, tractors, and cars in his workshop. State Trooper Robert Broadwater picked up the toys – 300 hundred of them – this past week and will be distributing them to local kids. Broadwater said the kids appreciate the handmade toys, each of which bears Ed’s initials and the date, because it is a special treat to receive a handmade wooden toy.
Ed told WTAE, “It’s just something that I enjoy doing, and now I make somebody else happy, and if that’s Santa Claus, then I’m Santa Claus.”
This week we visited several Head Start Programs and Leaning Centers to spread Ed’s good will. The reaction and appreciation from these kids show what kindness really means. Good Work Ed!! pic.twitter.com/YpayPoB4uM

Ed reminds us that with just a little effort, we can make others so happy. That is something good to remember as we head into the new week. Now it’s your turn… tell me Something Good!
