I hope each of you have a happy and blessed day filled, with laughter, love, family, friends, presents, and food.
I ask that God keeps you all warm, safe, and happy, for this day and all the days to come.
I have to confess that I’m struggling a bit this Christmas, not in so far as there are bad things happening, but things feel a bit unsettled, partly because I’m in the process of buying a house, partly because the political discord seems to seep into even the most mundane of things.
As an example, yesterday as the husband and I did all our Christmas shopping, hey, judge us, but we bought house, so yeah, Christmas shopping was not in the cards for weeks before.
Anyhoo, there we are traveling down a road to one of the final four stops on our Christmas shopping journey and what do we spy, no, not tiny reindeer, but a roadside stand selling Trump merchandise, including flags, where Trump looks like Rambo.
I’ll fully admit that we laughed, because seriously what else were we suppose to do, but there it was on Christmas Eve, politics glaring in our faces.
Now, I’ve seen the guides on how to deal with Liberal, Trump hating relatives, I’ve seen the guides on how to deal with Republican, Trump loving relatives, but here’s the thing, it’s Christmas, it’s not about politics, it’s about joy, family, friends, and celebrating the birth of Christ our Lord and Savior.
And besides, they are your friends and family, what the hell do others know about “surviving” the holiday in our mixed up beautifully dysfunctional-functional families?
Not much I say, because at the end of the day, they are our crazy mixed up relatives, and we survive because we love them, we survive because we believe that “this too shall pass,” and sometimes we survive knowing we only have see crazy “Uncle Al” once a year.
In short, today and all days, is about joy, laughter, love, be kind to one other, laugh, find joy, share your love.
