Propaganda Watch: Russian Social Media Ads–2/16/2020

This is part of an ongoing series where I review some of the ads purchased by the Russians. In doing so I hope we can get a better understanding of what they were trying to do, and how to recognize it the next time we’re faced with propaganda.

If you want to follow along, the ads can all be downloaded here. All of today’s ads can be found in the 2016-q2/2016-06 folder.

The Secured Borders group helped amplify the anti-immigrant sentiments. P(1)0004106 gave a general message about securing both geographical and cultural borders (note that this ad targets the South):

P(1)0004114 was a little more specific and said that Syrian refugees don’t respect our culture. This one has a single target group: adult New Yorkers.

P(1)0004115 gets even more specific, saying we need a huge wall with gun towers. Again, New Yorkers are a target audience:

I’m curious to see if the trend continues through July 2016 as well.

THIS IS AN OPEN THREAD. Take care, and enjoy your Sunday.
