The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to get caught up in the spin cycle and let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.

This week’s Something Good is paying it forward and an impromptu baby shower.

New parents Dustin and Caren Moore had adopted a baby in Colorado and when she was just eight days old, they flew back to California with her. Nervous about the flight, they boarded and apologized to their fellow passengers as they maneuvered down the aisle with four bags and baby.

When Caren asked about diaper changing facilities mid flight, the thoughtful flight attendant, Jenny, cleared a space so baby and new mom could have privacy. Dustin gave Jenny an abbreviated version of their adoption story and a few minutes later Bobby, the other flight attendant, stopped by to politely ask a few more questions of the couple.

Then the intercom came on and Bobby asked the passengers to welcome a special guest: Dustin and Caren’s baby girl. He explained that she had been adopted and was on her way home with her new parents. After the applause died down, he told the passengers that the attendants would be passing out napkins and pens so they could write down messages of congratulations and advice for the Moores.

Dustin explained on Twitter that people were peeking over the seats to catch a glimpse of baby and congratulating them. The notes were eventually gathered and a few read over the intercom. “Rub each other’s feet, and rub the baby’s feet.” “Make time for date night.” “Always tell her you love her.” “Enjoy every minute. It goes by sooo very fast.” “Drink lots of wine!”

The Moores were given about 60 napkins with handwritten notes and a pair of pilot wings for their daughter and even as they disembarked people kept stopping them to wish them well. Dustin said that the outpouring of love was indescribably uplifting for the couple who had waited nine years for a baby and were in a very “tender state”.

It turned out that Bobby and Jenny, the flight attendants, were married and had been given the same treatment on their honeymoon flight. Jenny remembered how touching it was and thought the Moores’ flight with their new daughter was the perfect way to pay it forward.

Dustin last tweet in his Twitter thread sums it up well:

Remembering to be the kind stranger who crosses the paths of others is a good admonition as we begin a new week.

Now it’s your turn… Tell me something good!
