The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to get caught up in the spin cycle and let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.

This Easter Sunday is different than any in our lifetimes. We face a world awash in grief and fear but also clinging to the the hope of renewal. Today’s Something Good reminds us that none of us are alone on this beautiful spring day.

Sarah Ditmars Cahill’s mother is in an assisted living facility in Florida and is only able to see Sarah from the other side of a fence when her caregivers take her outside. Her mother has dementia and doesn’t understand why her only child can’t come closer than ten feet away.

One day, when Sarah was trying to make her mom smile across the gate, she heard Albert Jones singing nearby and waved him over. Jones works for Southeast Connections Gas Company and happens to sing at church and in nursing homes. He gladly came over, wearing his hard hat and safety vest, and began singing.

He sang “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” while Sarah filmed the encounter. She says if you listen carefully, you can hear her mom singing along.

Sarah told CBS News, “I hope that when this virus is over, people will have changed and not wasted this time to reflect, and trust that there are good people everywhere. This virus has brought us all together and we are fighting for each other. Albert trusts in God, and so do I, and he freely shared his God-given gifts when asked to. We should all be that free to say yes when asked for help.”

Beyond the kindness Albert showed to a stranger by serenading her and lifting her spirits, the lyrics he sang to Sarah’s mom are worth thinking about, for people of faith, today.

Why should I feel discouraged?
And why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart feel lonely
And long for heavenly home
When Jesus is my portion?
A constant friend is he
His eye is on the sparrow
and I know he watches over me

Today’s Something Good has a little bit of faith, hope, and love wrapped up in it as an Easter gift. Now it’s your turn… tell me something good!
