The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to get caught up in the spin cycle and let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.
This week our Something Good is entertainment during the covid quarantine. Our first feature is a family helping a grandmother have a routine activity she misses right at home and the second is clever videos on Twitter reenacting songs from beloved musicals. Both are ways to encourage one another during these difficult times and a reminder that we can be close even when we are apart.
The first is Hendrika van Genderen getting a bit of normal thanks to her son and his family. The 87 year old has Alzheimers and has been missing her daily trip to the market. Her son Jason and his family brought the shops to Hendrika and put a smile on her face.
Mary Neely has been spending her time in social isolation recreating songs from favorite musicals – Oklahoma, South Pacific, Music Man, Greece, Les Mis, Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Hamilton, and her “magnum opus”: Beauty and the Beast, in three parts. If you need a little fun today, her thread of musical reenactments might be just the thing.
