Propaganda Watch: Russian Social Media Ads–7/18/2020

This is part of an ongoing series where I review some of the ads purchased by the Russians. In doing so I hope we can get a better understanding of what they were trying to do, and how to recognize it the next time we’re faced with propaganda.

October 2016 saw three times the number of ads as September. P(1)0005358 had all the markings for what should have been a popular post. It encouraged support for black owned businesses. So why no click throughs?

Perhaps the error was in they made Russia the target for their ad. P(1)0005360 fixed that, and saw a bit more success:

One would think that would have taught the trolls to stop and do basic proofreading. Not so much, as seen in this lengthy treatise about why they Hilary Clinton is bad for veterans. This one didn’t see much success in its target nation of Turkmenistan:
