Propaganda Watch: Russian Social Media Ads–7/25/2020

This is part of an ongoing series where I review some of the ads purchased by the Russians. In doing so I hope we can get a better understanding of what they were trying to do, and how to recognize it the next time we’re faced with propaganda.

If you want to follow along, the ads can all be downloaded here. All of today’s ads can be found in the 2016-q4/2016-10 folder.

There were a handful of anti-Clinton ads during October 2016. P(1)0000186 had a strange mix of Clinton insults, anger towards #NeverTrump and Texan pride:

P(1)0001035 is more substantial than the first, but it definitely works against Clinton as a candidate:

P(1)0005270 doesn’t beat around the bush. It straight up says that Clinton’s supporters are “Wall Street, sissies, cowards, and liars.”

Tomorrow I’ll present some more unexpected approaches to the anti-Clinton campaign.

THIS IS AN OPEN THREAD. Take care, and be well.
