It’s Friday aka Look’s Like We Made It

For Friday President Trying Something New has not tweeted, but has retweeted 2 times so far.

His last tweet was sent on Thursday at 9:54 p.m. D.C. time.

From the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) about page:

The Tennessee Valley Authority is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power companies serving 10 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. TVA receives no taxpayer funding, deriving virtually all of its revenues from sales of electricity. In addition to operating and investing its revenues in its electric system, TVA provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists local power companies and state and local governments with economic development and job creation.

…which for years has paid its top executive a ridiculous FORTUNE.

On November 15th, 2019 Chattanooga’s Times Free Press reported that the TVA paid its new CEO Jeff Lyash a “recruitment and relocation incentive of nearly $1.8 million to join the federal utility in April and awarded him other performance pay, incentives and pension benefits.”

According to the article Lyash’s total compensation was $8.12 million in his first six months on the job, that is if Lyash stays with the TVA for 5 years.

They go on to explain, “Under its Congressional authorizing legislation, the TVA board is directed to pay competitive wages and salaries to its workers and executives. TVA officials said its compensation levels help ensure that the agency attracts qualified and skilled personnel to run America’s biggest government-owned utility, which serves nearly 10 million people in seven Southeastern states.”

On April 8th, 2020, during a coronavirus task force daily briefing President Lashes Out, lashed out when asked about Lyash’s salary.

From the White House transcript.

Q: One on infrastructure.  Members of your administration and members of Congress have pointed out that the top paid federal employee, it’s not the President, it’s the head of the Tennessee Valley Authority, and he made $8 million last year and some —

President Lashes Out: It’s ridiculous.  I agree.  It’s ridiculous.  I think it’s the highest-paid government — long before I got here — you said Tennessee Valley Authority, right?  Has to be the highest-paid man in any government; makes approximately $8 or $9 million.  I don’t know the gentleman but he’s got a heck of a job.  He gets paid a lot of money.  He’s been there for a long while, hasn’t he?

Reporter who asked the question says:  This one actually is new.  He came in April.  But the previous one was —[Lyash started at the TVA in April 2019.]

President Lashes Out: Well, that’s a separate — yeah, that’s separate.  But I’m talking about the — the — we just have some new people going on the board, I know.

But as you know, that’s a quasi-public agency.  And whoever the head of the agency is, that person makes a lot of money —

Q: And if I could ask my second question —

President Lashes Out: — which is an amazing thing, right? And when we want them to do something, they’re not there for us. That’s not good. That’s not good. They’ve been there for a long time. That’s been a story for a long time.

Q: And I assume that you would support reducing that salary as part of the infrastructure bill?

President Lashes Out: Yeah.  Reducing it by a lot.

Q: Thank you.  And my other question is —

President Lashes Out: That would be the greatest job in the history of government, almost.  Certainly if you’re into money.  Tennessee Valley Authority.  That’s right.

Go ahead.

Q:   So —

President Lashes Out:  I’ve been waiting for somebody to ask me about that.  It’s been — it’s been bothering me for a long time too.

It’s unclear based on the clip above, but I believe the same report switches gears and asks about the Tiger King as his second question.

On April 10th Chattanooga Times Free Press reported in light of President Lashes Out’s comments on Thursday April 9th, TVA’s chairman Skip Thompson issued a memo to TVA’s more than 10,000 employees, saying; We are fully supportive of Jeff and of the entire TVA team. It’s unfortunate that ill-informed opinions are now distracting us from our focus on providing reliable power and other vital services during this challenging time.

The article explains that the TVA as a federal corporation “no longer gets any taxpayer support from the government and relies entirely upon the sale of of its electricity in its 7-state region to pay Lyash and its other bills.”

They added; TVA is an independent agency governed by its own board that is nominated by the president and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Congress can conduct oversight hearings and could change the TVA Act, but the president cannot directly dictate its policies or pay.

Thompson was appointed to the 9-member part-time board in 2017 by President Word Salad.

“U.S. Tech Workers”.

According to their Twitter Bio, U.S. Tech Workers are a: 501(c)(3) nonprofit representing the voices of American workers harmed by the H-1B visa program and pushing Congress for reforms to protect workers.

They responded to President Moron’s tweet…twice.

Based on my Googling for today’s tweet thread, I believe both the sitting President and U.S. Tech Workers are wrong about Lyash being the highest paid federal employee, since we are not as tax payers paying his salary.

As a side note to this story…

Presidential advisor Kellyanne Conway this morning said she believes President Low Polling Numbers has low polling numbers because he is not giving daily coronavirus task force updates.

Having read the transcript sort of, to find the comments from President Low Approval Rating, plus listening to the conference to determine where the statement was made, I for one can confirm Conway is delusional if she thinks a return of those events help her boss. The only people that would benefit from the return of the daily briefings are: The Lincoln Project, Joe Biden, and Sarah Cooper.

An hour after he tweeted his lashing out over an ad, nobody ever heard of before he mentioned it, he retweeted his tweet after showing Hannity some Trump-Love by retweeting Hannity 10 times in a row.
