Today, confirmation hearings will be held in the Senate for five prospective members of President Biden’s cabinet. At 10 am Eastern time will be Janet Yellen (Secretary of Treasury nominee), Alejandro Mayoraks (Secretary of Homeland Security nominee) and Avril Haines (Director of National Intelligence). At 2, the nomination for Antony Blinken as Secretary of State will face its Senate hearing, and the final hearing of the day will be for Secretary of Defense nominee Lloyd Austin.
While confirmation hearings are typically held in the two weeks before the inauguration, it is highly unusual to load so many major confirmations into the final day before the new President is to take office. The only modern comparison was in 2001, when Democratic opposition and a contested election resulted in most of the major confirmation hearings to be held on January 20, 2001.
Here are the links to the different hearings. The order will be modified through the day to keep the most current hearings toward the bottom of the thread, to better accommodate anyone who wishes to watch and comment.
