In Avondale, Arizona, New Year’s Day could have been tragic for the Salgado family. The family of 6 was asleep on the morning of New Year’s Day when their neighbor Caroline Palish frantically began banging on their door and ringing the door bell because she saw flames coming out of the garage roof.
Ring door bell video captured the dramatic rescue, including the flames around the entry as Caroline approaches the door. The family made it out and Caroline is overheard on the video telling them they could go to her house.
Nicole Salgado told Channel 12 that there was barely any smoke in the house when Caroline’s knocking woke them up. The roof collapsed a short while later – if Caroline had not banged on the door when she did, the family would have been inside.
The Salgados’ home was severely damaged – between the fire itself and the smoke and water damage, they lost everything they owned. David and Nicole are grateful to be alive and are working on rebuilding. Nicole expressed her gratitude over Caroline’s quick thinking to Channel 12, “She saved our life and we will always be thankful to her.”
The community has already raised over $40,000 via a GoFundMe started on their behalf.
Caroline told Channel 12, “I believe in certain times things happen for a reason and we’re meant to be in a certain spot.”
