The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to get caught up in the spin cycle and let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week, we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good!

Today’s something good is a helping hand.

In Midway, B.C., an elderly man had a medical emergency and was transported to the hospital, leaving his 82 year old wife alone for three weeks. A RCMP officer, Corporal Phil Peters noticed her and a friend breaking up furniture to burn in her wood stove to heat the home.

Peters, along his dog Angel, Constable Jonathan Stermscheg, Constable Chris Hansen, civilian staff member Leanne Mclaren, and her dog Lincoln, travelled into the backcountry to cut wood for the woman. According to spokesperson for the B.C. RMCP’s Southeast District, Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey, the group sorted, split, delivered and stacked two SUVs full of wood for the local elder.

Chief Superintendent Brad Haugli, District Commander of the RCMP’s Southeast District, called Peters, Stermscheg, Hansen and Mclaren “leaders in the community” for their “tremendous compassion”, according to B.C. Local News.

O’Donaghey said they hope this act of extending a helping hand in these unprecedented times encourages others “to step up, reach out to those around them and help out where they can.”

We may not all be able to fire up a chainsaw and cut a load of wood for someone in need, but we can all do something to help.

Now it’s your turn… Tell me something good.
