For a contemporaneous event to make it into one of my writings for the Owl, it has to have a bit of oddity to it but should, ideally, not be a matter of common knowledge. If it’s all the buzz on the internet, I don’t want to approach it.
I’m making an exception in this case, because I’ve enjoyed visiting many odd food failures in the past, and this seems like it’s primed to join the ranks of legendary mistakes. As the buzz around the product is growing, I need to address it early if it’s going to have any chance of informing anyone.
So, here’s the latest questionable food decision: candy mac & cheese.
Designed to be available for only one thousand “lucky” winners, potential consumers can enter for their chance at the Kraft website. It’s basically a standard box of Kraft macaroni and cheese, with the macaroni colored pink and with a packet of candy-flavored additive to sweeten it up.
This follows September’s contest, where a thousand winners received a container of pumpkin spice mac & cheese. (Currently available on Ebay for $40, for those who can’t figure out how to get a $3 shaker of pumpkin spice flavoring and dust some onto the top of their meal.)
Their marketing crew has suggested that winners can supplant the usual roses and chocolate and provide their beloved with a box of candy mac & cheese instead. I would instead direct anyone who decides to surprise their sweetheart with this to have a ready supply of those standards prepared, in case there is a reason why the ubiquitous blue box hasn’t been used for desserts in the past.
Question of the night: What’s your go-to comfort food?
