The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to get caught up in the spin cycle and let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.

Today’s story is a bad ending averted.

When a two year-old girl in Ontario County, New York went missing at the end of March, local law enforcement quickly began a door-to-door search for her with State Troopers, K9s, and drones backing them up. It was a nice day, but as the hours ticked by and sunset approached, the temperature was going to drop. State Trooper Brian Hotchkiss and a couple other troopers decided to climb the mountain that was practically in the girl’s back yard, according to WNCT.

“These missing kids, it can go really bad. It’s time-sensitive depending on the time of year, so although it was a nice day, the temperature was dropping,” Hotchkiss said.

Between the troopers and the top of the mountain was a climb that would take them nearly an hour and streams and ponds and various dangers for a little girl. They knew they were in a race against time.

Finally, after seeing only forest browns and greys, Hotchkiss saw a pink dot through the trees and he knew he had found her. He followed the stream and saw the little one lying on her stomach on a rock. When he approached, she moved her arm and he knew then she was alive.

“I was so excited, I ran up and she hugged me immediately and she wouldn’t let go,” the Trooper said. “I still can’t get that out of my head, her turning over and looking at me and throwing her hands up in the air. I’ll never forget that.”

The toddler was alert but shivering when they found her so one of the other troopers wrapped her in his uniform to keep her warm until they got her down the mountain. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance but she is safe and healthy, according to Trooper Hotchkiss.

Now it’s your turn… Tell me something good!
