In case there was any doubt adulting =’s shopping…

The White House published the following statement:

On Thursday, December 23, 2021, the President signed into law:
H.R. 6256, which bans imports from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (Xinjiang) of the People’s Republic of China and imposes sanctions on foreign individuals responsible for forced labor in the region,
Thank you to Speaker Pelosi, Leader Schumer, Representatives McGovern and Chris Smith, and Senators Merkley and Rubio for their leadership.

The below YouTbue is 10 minutes and 59 seconds long. His full remarks can be found here.

President Biden: But today, we’re finally closer than ever to new treatments and hopefully, hopefully — God willing — a cure.  And it’s because of the movement led by the patients and caregivers and members of Congress of both parties, many of whom are joining us today virtually.  Patients like Brian Wallach and his wife, Sandra.  They met in 2008 working in the New Hampshire primary for Barack Obama, believing in a movement of hope and change.  Then they both worked for the Obi- — the Obama-Biden White House, driven by public service, beloved by colleagues, anchored by the love of family.

The Video is 1 minute and 56 seconds long.

President Biden: In your own ways, you’ve brought people together. You’ve made us laugh, you made us cry, you’ve made us sing, you’ve made us dance. And generations of families have shared the love of your work and our nation is stronger, more dynamic and more vibrant because of you.

Better Midler: So many of the people who have been honored, who have been honorees are giants in their fields. And so to join this, this legacy is a real, a real honor.

Berry Gordy: You must realize that I’m in a state of mind that is kind of a wonderful exhilaration. Just being here and being an honoree, I’m just very thankful that I was able to deserve something like this. I mean, it’s a wonderful feeling.

Joni Mitchell: It’s like a fairy tale in a way, you know, it really is. In various countries there are pinnacle honors like this, but this for America is the cherry on the pudding.

Justino Díaz: I inaugurated the Kennedy Center in 1971 and to come back and to receive this beautiful recognition of my career. It was a very special treat and I thank you all.

Lorne Michaels: In the simplest way, it’s thrilling. You know it’s thrilling when you get told that you’ve been chosen and you take it in and then you start to look forward to it. And then when they say that you don’t have to give a speech, then you really start to look forward to it.

President Biden: To all the Kennedy Center Honorees, past and present thank you for sharing your gift with the nation and with the world. To the five honorees tonight and to your families, thank you.
