Yesterday, President Biden offered remarks following a briefing with the White House COVID-19 Response Team:

President Biden: But I want to send a direct message to the American people: Due to the steps we’ve taken, Omicron has not yet spread as fast as it would’ve otherwise done and as is happening in Europe.  But it’s here now, and it’s spreading, and it’s going to increase. For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. But there’s good news: If you’re vaccinated and you had your booster shot, you’re protected from severe illness and death — period. Number two, booster shots work. Three, boosters are free, safe, and convenient. About 60 million people have one — have been boosted.  So, go get your shot today.  Go get boosted if you’ve had your first two shots.  If you haven’t, go get your first shot.  It’s time.  It’s time.  It’s past time.

My daughter got her booster this afternoon so far she’s fine.

As mentioned in Monday’s Biden Bits; the Senate passed a measure which allowed Democrats to raise the debt ceiling without Republican support. President Biden signed the first of the two needed bills on Friday. Congress voted to raise the debt ceiling on Tuesday.

The YouTube video is 28 minutes and 30 seconds long. His full remarks can be found here.

The White House released the following statement on; The Build Back Better Act:

I had a productive call with Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Schumer earlier today. I briefed them on the most recent discussions that my staff and I have held with Senator Manchin about Build Back Better. In these discussions, Senator Manchin has reiterated his support for Build Back Better funding at the level of the framework plan I announced in September. I believe that we will bridge our differences and advance the Build Back Better plan, even in the face of fierce Republican opposition.

My team and I are having ongoing discussions with Senator Manchin; that work will continue next week. It takes time to finalize these agreements, prepare the legislative changes, and finish all the parliamentary and procedural steps needed to enable a Senate vote. We will advance this work together over the days and weeks ahead; Leader Schumer and I are determined to see the bill successfully on the floor as early as possible.

Build Back Better is urgently needed to lower the cost of prescription drugs, health care, child care, and elder care. Notwithstanding the unrelenting Republican obstruction – not a single Republican is willing to move forward on the bill – I am determined to see this bill enacted into law, to give America’s families the breathing room they deserve. We also need urgent action on climate change and other priorities in the Build Back Better plan.

We will – we must – get Build Back Better passed, even in the face of Republican opposition.

At the same time, we must also press forward on voting rights legislation, and make progress on this as quickly as possible. I had a productive conversation today with several Senators about how we can get this vital legislation passed. Our democracy is at stake.

The tweeted video is 38 seconds long; it’s snips from remarks he gave on Wednesday from Kentucky.

President Biden: You know, people talk about post-traumatic stress in the battlefield as I traveled through Afghanistan and Iraq.  Well, guess what?  There’s a lot of post-traumatic stress that comes from lying in your house and all of a sudden the roof goes blowing off and you wonder whether your kids are around.  I really mean it.  So, you know — or the shock of losing a home and a business, the grief of losing someone. It’s happening right before the holidays, as I said, and we’re going to make sure that you have all the help you need, including the kind of mental help that is needed to help people through difficult times.

President Biden: And to all of the families here: Keep the faith.  We’re going to get this done.  I promise you, the governor is not walking away.  Your county judge is not walking away.  Your congressman is not walking away.  No one is walking away.  We’re in this for the long haul.

President Biden: I promise you: You’re going to heal.  We’re going to recover.  You’re going to rebuild.  You’re going to be stronger than you were before.  We’re going to build back better than it was.

The daily briefing was brief in the form of a Air Force One press gaggle.

President Biden’s remarks are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. D.C., time.
