Coffee Talk Saturday…

It’s Saturday.

Semi-current mood…

This week has been long…

Aren’t they all anymore?

That could just be me though…

Anyhoo, the other day, I couldn’t tell you what day, but I know it was possibly Wednesday or Thursday….

I saw this tweet posted in the comment section. Which one? Dunno…

So I followed her link to the Press Release

Today, Congresswomen Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and Cheri Bustos (D-IL) as well as Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and Roy Blunt (R-MO) announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has allocated $829.1 million in funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) for the Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program (NESP) on the Upper Mississippi River System (UMRS). Specifically, the funding will be used to complete the modernization of Lock & Dam 25, including the construction of a new 1,200-foot lock, an environmental restoration project at Lock & Dam 22, and other small-scale ecosystem and navigation projects in the region.

She’s quoted as saying; The lock and dam system along the Upper Mississippi River is critical to Iowa’s agriculture economy and our country’s entire supply chain — this landmark investment will be game-changing for Iowans and communities along the Mississippi River like Dubuque, Over 60 percent of our nation’s grain exports travel through this lock and dam system, and it is a massive economic engine for the entire state. That’s why I helped lead a bipartisan group of my colleagues in urging the Administration to prioritize funding for these essential upgrades. I’ll always fight to ensure Iowans’ taxpayer dollars are reinvested at home in Iowa.

But guess what she didn’t support…

If you guessed the Infrastructure bill…

On Nov. 5th, 2021, she was a “nay.” On July 21st, 2021, she was a “nay.”

Now, I am aware she’s saying she’s proud that she got some of the pie, that she didn’t support baking in the first place.

I think that’s what bugs me the most, she wants a pat back, an…

For securing funds for Iowa, while she can go on Faux News or NewsWax and bash Liberals over spending…

The above ties into this I saw yesterday (it was just yesterday, I think, who knows anymore…) curiosity of Tony…

Maggie19951 asked;

South Florida Water Management District said this on November 12th, 2020…

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board today unanimously approved fully funding the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir Project’s Stormwater Treatment Area (STA).

“Today’s vote will fully fund the Stormwater Treatment Area, the state’s portion of the EAA Reservoir Project, and help us continue to expedite this critical project,” said SFWMD Governing Board Chairman Chauncey Goss. “Under the leadership of Gov. Ron DeSantis, we are already turning dirt ahead of schedule to make this project a reality sooner. The EAA Reservoir Project is critical to reducing damaging discharges, sending more water south, and storing excess rainfall.”

The $64 million transfer from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection will provide SFWMD all the funds it needs to complete the 6,500-acre STA that will clean water stored in the 240,000 acre-foot EAA Reservoir and allow it to be moved south to the Everglades. SFWMD expects to complete the STA portion of the project by 2023.

When used in conjunction with other critical Everglades restoration projects that will be completed over the next several years, the EAA Reservoir Project will reduce environmentally damaging discharges from Lake Okeechobee to the northern estuaries. The project will also increase the flow of clean water south to Everglades National Park.

The reservoir and STA are a combined Everglades restoration effort being completed by SFWMD and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The reservoir is one of more than two dozen projects that Gov. DeSantis identified shortly after taking office in 2019 as key priorities for Everglades restoration. DeSantis directed state agencies in Executive Order 19-12 to expedite the completion of these projects to support Everglades restoration and state water quality improvements.

Now, as I read the tweet from the twat Governor, I was triggered to recall that just on Wednesday of this week…

I said this:

US Army Corps of Engineers on Wednesday announced; The U.S. Army announced today the Civil Works studies, projects and programs that the Corps would implement in Fiscal Year 2022 with the $22.81 billion in supplemental funding provided in two recently enacted laws — the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act; and the 2022 Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act.

The snip regarding the Infrastructure law:

Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal: Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Public Law 117-58
With the $17.099 billion provided in Public Law 117-58, the Army will fund Army Civil Works studies and projects, maintain existing infrastructure, and repair damage and dredge channels in response to floods and coastal storms. Through this investment in water resources infrastructure, over $5 billion will help improve community resilience in the face of global climate change and $3.936 billion will address commercial navigation improvements at coastal ports and on the inland waterways. The Army plan funds the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration program at $1.098 billion, a historic funding level that will enable significant progress in restoring Florida’s nationally significant Everglades ecosystem.  In the coming year, the Army will engage with environmental justice communities in the development of a strategy to allocate $130 million in two pilot programs authorized in the Water Resources Development Act of 2020 that target economically disadvantaged community’s needs.

As part of this effort, the Army plan funds to completion 15 feasibility studies, the Preconstruction Engineering and Design (PED) phase of 5 projects, and 19 construction projects in Fiscal Year (FY) 2022.  Additionally, in FY 2022, 22 new projects will be funded in the Construction account.

How do I know it was Wednesday?

The article is dated and timestamped…

Guess what else Governor Twat ignored in his lamenting at how President Biden didn’t include the precious Everglades in his Infrastructure bill

All 16 Republican House members voted against the bill. While the 10 Democratic House members voted for the bill.

Not to be outshone by the Florida House members both Senators from Florida also…

Senate.gov.

That’s right, they didn’t support the bill, but somehow Governor Twat who wants to beat Trump in 2024, is disappointed in Biden for not securing funding that is secured…

It all goes back to me being amused by this guy; Landrieu: Yeah, Jeff, thank you so much for that.  A very wise person said, you know, “Even if they vote no, they want the dough.”  (Laughter.)  And that — (laughs) — that’s absolutely true, especially on infrastructure.

I still haven’t found out who the wise person is, but whoever they are, they aren’t lying…
