TNB Night Owl – Carpenters

Having sold more than 100 million records worldwide, the Carpenters are among “the best-selling music artists of all time.” It’s hard to exaggerate or even explain how popular they were in the early seventies. Sure, it’s not rock and roll, but that’s part of the beauty of the decade: a wide variety of musical styles enjoyed popularity. No review or account of the era could be accurate or complete without the Carpenters. If ‘classic pop’ was as popular today as classic rock radio format, Karen and Richard Carpenter would be well remembered. Their music consists (mostly) of romantic ballads accentuated by Karen’s incredible voice. She had talent that very few others could compete with.
