The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.

Today’s something good is a real life Lassie.

In a remote part of the Tahoe National Forest, a 53-year-old man and his dog Saul, faced a life and death crisis when the man fell 70 feet down a cliff. He broke his hip and ribs in the fall. By the next day he had managed to get himself to where he had cell service and was able to call for help from his makeshift camp, according to KCRA.

When the search and rescue team arrived on scene, they initially had trouble locating their victim in the rugged terrain. But Saul, a border collie, was on the job. He bounded through the forest when he heard the search team and, according to Sgt Dennis Haack, Saul “was jumping up and down and spinning around in circles. He took them right to the victim.”

At first, the folks back at the Sheriff’s office didn’t believe the account that came back – that a border collie had led rescuers directly to the victim – because it “sounded like a movie”. But when the team returned and explained what had happened, everyone realized that Saul really had channeled Lassie.

The team got the victim, who had traumatic injuries, to the helicopter and safely on his way to medical care. Saul was taken as well and given a well-deserved dinner. He has been cared for by a local non-profit while his owner recovers. His owner’s condition is already improving and he is talking about reuniting with the pup who helped save his life.

Dogs are something good. Now it’s your turn… Tell me something good!
