The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.
Today’s Something Good is the kindness of strangers.
Amanda and Paul Riesel had been planning their wedding on the Isle of Skye for about two years but everything went wrong on their flight to Scotland, according to the BBC. They planned on a four-day buffer between leaving for Skye and the actual wedding but ended up spending 72 hours in airports or on planes and arrived at 11:00 pm the night before the ceremony. Even worse, their luggage was lost and they arrived at their destination with only the rings.
The Florida couple was ready to call off the wedding when Skye when wedding photographer Rosie Woodhouse came to their rescue. Knowing they were on one of the most beautiful places on earth, the photos were covered, so she put out a plea on social media and the locals came thru. In short order, everything they needed had been supplied. A kilt was provided for Paul and there was a wedding dress for Amanda. Amanda is a cafeteria worker in Orlando and, by strange happenstance, her dress was donated by a woman named Theresa who is also a cafeteria worker.
Amanda said, “”Wearing it meant even more to me knowing it came from someone who loves and feeds her students just like I do.”
Their wedding was not exactly what they had planned but it was magical nonetheless. “Our perfectly imperfect wedding was only a possibility because of Rosie and the wonderful folks in Skye,” Amanda said.
Going from hopeless to happy, at the hands of strangers, is Something Good. Now it’s your turn… Tell me something good.
