Now even more search warrant-y, thanks to today’s statement from Dept of Justice Chief Merrick Garland. After three days, the right finally got what they’ve been clamoring for. Let’s see what their reaction is…
First allow me to link to Tiff’s fabulous thread of Garland’s statement. You know, in case you have mundane things going on in your life like having to go in to work to keep food on your table and gas in your car and didn’t get a chance to catch it live.
Next, let’s see what The Orange One Who Once Was POTUS had to say in response:
For a guy who was suggesting earlier this week (along with his lawyers) that the FBI might’ve planted evidence during their search, this seems like an admission that he did, in fact, take documents he had no right to. Of course, the difference is that Obama didn’t take documents without permission. That’s kind of a big detail Trumpy left out…
Here’s Sean Hannity giving Trump’s claim a much wider audience:
This is a disinformation tactic regularly used by RW media: it’s beyond simple “whataboutism,” because it conflates and distorts two dissimilar stories and pretends they’re the same thing.
Obama didn’t steal any documents, nor are they “missing.” He has them with the blessing of the National Archives. Trump, on the other hand, sidestepped that whole process of turning in these documents and then getting some back from the Archives; instead, he just took them. This really isn’t a difficult concept, but maybe it’s a bit advanced for Sean. Either that; or he’s just a lying liar who lies to his audience.
I’m voting for the latter…
Here’s Mark Levin’s take:
Actually, Mark, we learned a lot more than that. Maybe you were yelling so loud back at your TV that you couldn’t hear the other important stuff?
Here’s one important thing he said, Mark:
Haven’t you and many others on the right been demanding to see the warrant? Well, the government’s willing to show it. Will your guy Trump object, or will he allow it?
Guess we’ll find out later today…
Mark Levin isn’t done sharing his deep thoughts…
Mark and his fellow travelers hate Liz Cheney, who has been conducting a master class on putting country before party for a couple of years now. She’s a patriot seeking the truth in order to hold Trump accountable. Meanwhile, Mark Levin has been running interference for Trump for years, and he still is. I wonder what Mark’s take will be tomorrow on Trump…
Here’s Jonathan Turley, telling Hannity and his audience this sort of disagreement between the former POTUS and the National Archives happens all the time. This segment aired after the news broke about what might’ve been among those documents Trump has…
There have been situations in the past involving a former POTUS and some documents he took, but nothing like this. No other former POTUS has tussled with the National Archives over the fact that he took a whole bunch of classified documents when he left the White House. Something tells me this clip isn’t going to age well…
Trump’s lawyer Christina Bobb may have let one of the cats out of the bag. Remember how she and others (including Trump) suggested the FBI may have planted evidence?
Demand the CCTV tapes! If the Trumps have nothing to hide, then there should be no problem with them handing over the tapes, right?
Oh, my… Christina isn’t done…
She says the Trump team had been very cooperative and turned over everything.
Um… then why did the FBI need to raid Mar-a-Lago, Christina?
More thoughts from possibly the dumbest Trump attorney ever…
The Biden administration is more than happy to have the warrant unsealed, along with the evidence inventory, Chrissie Boob. It’s up to Trump whether he allows it or not. So… yeah. We’ll see if his RW defenders spend tomorrow explaining to us all how refusing to allow the warrant to be unsealed was done “for the good of the country” in order to unify us…
Ron Filipkowski says what I wish I had first:
Here’s Elise Stefanik. Oh, wait, sorry… she’s apparently decided discretion is the better part of valor so she’s changing the subject:
I don’t know who the source is on this, but it made me LOL:
So, let me get this straight, you don’t want the warrant unsealed after all? Did anyone NOT see this coming?
Brian Kilmeade gives us what might possibly be the stupidest take yet:
Yes, why didn’t Merrick Garland explain to us about the raid before they did it? I’m sure the evidence wouldn’t have gotten flushed down one of Fat Donnie’s gold toilets or anything.
Huh. I just found this clip from Jesse Watters. He’s giving Kilmeade a run for his money…
No worries, guys. Trump just wanted all those boxes of documents as mementos. Oh, and as for the chyron, no, Trump wasn’t cooperating. That’s why they had to execute a search warrant.
Jesse’s not done with the stupid…
Maybe because no other POTUS had so many corrupt criminals working for him as Trump did. I mean, that could be the reason, right?
Uh oh… this might put Brian back in the lead. This is just a blatant lie. Okay, sure, it’s obviously photoshopped, but how many of Fox News’ old viewers will see that and believe it’s real? This is just completely unprofessional and unethical, unless Kilmeade is hosting a late-night comedy talk show.
Okay, sorry… we’ve just plumbed a new depth of stupidity. This is beyond stupid. It’s… it’s… yeah, I got nothing. Devin Nunes and this Newsmax host have a very special take.
Yeah, you really need to watch the clip. But Trump was doing us a public service by holding onto the documents he took. I won’t spoil it for you just what they’re speculating the documents might be.
Pam Bondi is outraged about… something.
Just gonna say again, if breaking reports are true, having “hundreds” of agents in the water and the air maybe wasn’t such an overreaction as Pam here is suggesting…
And the story gets worse if the Washington Post and NYT reporting pans out:
I’m thinking a few years’ stay at the lovely spa facility at Leavenworth…
I’m just putting this here in the “pundit takes that didn’t age well” category, from Alice Stewart:
It’s looking like there’s not going to be a backfire for Biden…
Apparently Laura Ingraham got the memo about the Washington Post reporting, and here’s her very special take:
She doesn’t know what the documents are, but speculates they’re nothing terribly important. She’s already spinning to downplay the severity of this.
Sure, Laura. That’s why the FBI wanted a lock on the door where these papers were being stored. Because it was nothing important.
Ron Filipkowski has an observation:
I guess the RW media bubble forgot that Bill Barr is no longer in charge at the DOJ…
In the “I just got whiplash from the fast-changing narrative” category, we have Joel Pollak:
So, basically, whatever the FBI did — whether overstepping or taking too long — as far as Pollak is concerned, they need to all be fired. Convenient when all the situations have the same answer… Defund the FBI!
Pretty much, yeah…
I’m closing with a joke, because my mom always said “I can either laugh or cry, and I choose to laugh.”
