The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. This week’s something good is The Helpers.
On this day of remembrance, in addition to the death and destruction, we recall the many moments of kindness that occurred 21 years ago. Acts of kindness, big and small, that happened moments, hours, and days after the towers were hit remain etched in our consciousnesses just as surely as the terror of that day.
You’ve no doubt heard of Mr. Rogers recounting how his mother told him to look for the helpers when a tragedy happens. You’ve also no doubt heard of the story of Gander – one of the loveliest examples of The Helpers that 9/11 brought about. Even though it is a familiar story, it is worth revisiting today.

The people of Gander stepped up to help people they didn’t know on a terrible day – it was a day on which we were all neighbors. The moral of the story is, I think, that we can all be The Helpers in any given situation, on any given day. A helping hand is always something good.
