TNB Night Owl – Robert Palmer

He dressed up for work. For whatever reason, Robert Palmer almost always performed in a suit and tie, especially in the eighties. My guess is, it was his way of being different and standing out in the world of rock and pop music. Not unlike KISS, in a way. They dressed up for work, too. Or, maybe he just liked fine clothes and thought they best reflected his persona, I don’t know.

In 1984-1985, Palmer (lead vocals) teamed with Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor (guitar) and John Taylor (bass), as well as former Chic member Tony Thompson (drums) to form supergroup The Power Station while Duran Duran took some time off. The group scored three hits, which are included below.

1978
Every Kinda People (3:52)

1979
Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) (3:13)

1985
Some Like It Hot (3:47)
(with The Power Station)

1985
Get It On (Bang a Gong) (3:44)
(with The Power Station)

1985
Communication (3:38)
(with The Power Station)

1986
Addicted to Love (3:54)

1986
Hyperactive (3:56)

1986
I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On (3:47)

1988
Simply Irresistible (4:29)

1988
Early in the Morning (4:42)
