TNB Night Owl – Sade

Nearly forty years ago, British singer Sade Adu (born Helen Folasade Adu) came on the scene. Her music was unlike anything else that was popular in that era: it was sophisticated, classy, and at least ten years ahead of its time.

Naturally, I – being young, a rock fan, not sophisticated, not classy, and definitely not ahead of my time – didn’t much care for it. Her two most popular songs at that moment were Smooth Operator, and The Sweetest Taboo, both of which received lots of airplay, granting me ample opportunity to listen and form an unadoring opinion. Based on those impressions, I decided I had no interest in hearing any of her other songs. That was then.

Times have changed, and so has this music lover’s opinion regarding Sade. Recently, I listened to her highest-charting tracks from bygone years (listed below) expecting not to care much more about them now than I did four decades ago. And voilà! I stand corrected. Sade’s music is now Night Owl playlist recommended.

By the way, it’s pronounced, ‘shah-DAY’.
