The Pointer Sisters could have chosen just one genre to be great in, as most acts do. Instead, they demonstrated the wide range of their talent with Top 40 hits in R&B (Yes We Can Can), blues (Wang Dang Doodle), soul (How Long), dance (Neutron Dance), and even country (Fairytale), to name a few examples. They were versatile, underrated, and underappreciated.
Ultimately, most of their music had a definite pop sound to it, which may explain why The Pointer Sisters, a group typically categorized as R&B, did better on the pop chart than the R&B chart.
First number #n is Billboard Hot 100 chart, second number is R&B. A “-” indicates the single did not chart in that category.
