Biden Bits: Merry Christmas, America.

Hello Friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas weekend!

I’m writing the start of the post on Saturday, Christmas Eve morning. It’s cold (not near as cold as the majority of the U.S.), but it is chilly and foggy!

Anyhoo, I decided for my sanity and yours, to start early; since it’s early I’m going go old school and start from Friday’s tweets leading us to Monday’s tweets…

When the post was posted for Christmas Eve Eve Friday, President Biden had tweeted 3 times. He added 7 tweets giving him a Christmas Eve Eve Friday Tweeting Total of 10 tweets and 0 retweets.

The video is 1 minute and 8 seconds long. It features a montage of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the US; the voice over is taken from their remarks from the Oval Office prior to their bilateral meeting.

President Biden: Well, Mr. President, it’s good to have you back. I’m delighted you were able to make the trip to be here. And, you know, it’s an honor to be by your side in united defense against what is a brutal, brutal war being waged by Putin.

President Biden: And — but the Ukrainian people continue to inspire the world. I mean that sincerely. Not just inspire us, but inspire the world with their courage and how they have chose the resilience and resolve for their future. And the American people have stood proudly with them, Democrats and Republicans — together with our allies in Europe and Japan and other places — to make sure that you have the financial, humanitarian, and security assistance that is needed. And we’re going to talk about that today.

President Zelenskyy: Of course, thanks bipartisan support. Thanks, Congress. And thanks from our just ordinary people to your ordinary people, Americans. I really appreciate. I think it’s very difficult to — to understand what does it mean when we say appreciate, but — but you really have — have to feel it. And thank you so much. Great honor to be here.

The last few seconds of the video:

President Biden: Thank you, thank you.
President Zelenskyy: Thank you so much.
President Biden: Appreciate you.

It’s another montage video. It’s 1 minute and 24 seconds long. The voice overs are from remarks given by the President and First Lady during the White House Hanukkah reception.

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden: Throughout these halls, in the shining silver and shimmering mirrors, you will catch glimpses, I hope, of your own reflection. And I hope you will notice something else as well: a new menorah. (Applause.) It’s made of historic wood from the beams of this house, rescued when President Truman renovated this building. Its hand-hammered silver cups are meant to magnify the glow of the candles, their beauty reminding us both the mir- — the Hanukkah miracle and the joy it inspired. Each detail was carefully chosen and executed by our Executive Residence Carpenter Shop.

President Biden: Well, folks, Happy Hanukkah, everyone. (Applause.) On behalf of Jill, Doug, and Kamala, thank you. And, Rabbi, Bronia, thank you for hanging out with me la- — a couple weeks ago. And Michèle and — and Abigale. To all of you here, including so many friends, thank you being — for being part of this moment.

President Biden: Tonight, we’re honored to mark another new tradition we’re establishing tonight. And that is the lighting of what will be the first-ever permanent White House menorah. (Applause.) It will also be the first Jewish artifact in the entire White House collection. (Applause.)

President Biden: Like this White House menorah, our commitment to the safety of the Jewish people and to the vibrancy of Jewish life that’s tightly woven into every fabric of America, it’s permanent. Permanent.

President Biden: So this Hanukkah, let’s celebrate the rededication — the rededication of ourselves to the spirit of resilience, unity, and permanence.

We turn toward the White House.gov tab “the record” for this next tweet and if I’m honest probably several more tweets to come!

Lowering Costs of Families’ Everyday Expenses

The Inflation Reduction Act Infographic

The Inflation Reduction Act lowers costs for families, combats the climate crisis, reduces the deficit, and finally makes the largest corporations pay their fair share. For the first time, Medicare will be able to negotiate the price of certain high-cost drugs, and seniors’ out of pocket expenses at the pharmacy will be capped at $2,000 a year. President Biden and Congressional Democrats worked together to deliver a historic legislative achievement that defeats special interests, delivers for American families, advances the most aggressive action on climate change and environmental injustice in American history, and grows the economy from the bottom up and middle out.

The First Meaningful Gun Violence Reduction Legislation in 30 Years

Bipartisan Safer Communities Act Infographic

President Biden brought together Democrats and Republicans to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major piece of gun safety legislation in three decades. The law will save lives by requiring young people ages 18 to 21 to undergo enhanced background checks; narrowing the “boyfriend loophole” to keep guns out of the hands of convicted dating partners; funding crisis interventions, including extreme risk protection order (“red flag”) laws; making significant investments to address the mental health crisis in America, including in our schools; clarifying who needs to register as a federally licensed gun dealer and run background checks before selling a single weapon; and making gun trafficking and straw purchases distinct federal crimes.

Delivering on the Most Aggressive Climate and Environmental Justice Agenda in American History

Climate Action Infographic

The U.S. is positioned to achieve our ambitious climate goals of cutting our emissions in half by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. The President has taken executive action and signed legislation to develop clean energy at home, accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, and reduce pollution that endangers overburdened communities. And, the President is lowering energy costs for families, creating good paying jobs, and ensuring America leads the global clean energy economy. The President also protected more lands and waters in his first year than any President since John F. Kennedy.

President Biden’s full statement:

The bipartisan funding bill advances key priorities for our country and caps off a year of historic bipartisan progress for the American people.

This bill is good for our economy our competitiveness, and our communities – and I will sign it into law as soon as it reaches my desk. This bill will advance cutting-edge research on cancer and other diseases through my ARPA-H initiative. It will put more cops on the beat, invest in community policing, and provide the highest funding level for the Violence Against Women Act in history. It will help us meet our sacred obligation to America’s veterans and deliver on the promise of the PACT Act, my bipartisan legislation to expand health care benefits to veterans. It will provide additional assistance to Ukraine, another demonstration of our bipartisan support for Ukraine after President Zelenskyy’s visit. It will help communities recovering from devastating natural disasters get back on their feet. And, it’ll strengthen worker protections for pregnant women.

I want to thank Senator Leahy, Senator Shelby, and Chairwoman DeLauro for their tireless work to get this done. Neither side got everything it wanted in this agreement – that’s what happens in a negotiation.

And, bipartisan members of Congress passed the Electoral Count Act and took long overdue steps to protect the integrity of our elections. This is critical bipartisan action that will help ensure that the will of the people is preserved. I want to thank Senators Collins and Manchin, as well as Senators Klobuchar and Blunt, for finding compromise to strengthen our democracy in the face of election denialism and assaults on our bedrock constitutional values.

This bill is further proof that Republicans and Democrats can come together to deliver for the American people, and I’m looking forward to continued bipartisan progress in the year ahead.

He’s got 2 tweets posted so far for Monday.

The video message is 52 seconds long.

President Biden: Jill and I wish everyone a happy Kwanzaa.

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden: During this celebration millions will gather with their families to reflect on the struggles and triumphs of the past and look towards a brighter future. With each candle you light, we hope your home is warmed by the laughter of your family and friends, your hands are inspired to creativity, and your heart is filled with determination, faith, and love.

President Biden: And we give thanks for the rich heritage of African-Americans, which is deep in the story of our nation. In 2023, it’s out hope that we all remember the wisdom of the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa, especially the values of unity and faith as we work to make the promise of our nation real in the lives of every American.

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden: May your Kwanzaa be blessed with hope, peace, and light.
