The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.

Today’s something good is an answered prayer.

On January 2, Damar Hamlin, 24 years old, collapsed with a cardiac arrest after being tackled during the Bills vs Bengals game. Fans watched as he was quickly treated by medical staff and surrounded by distraught players from both teams. Both teams agreed that the game could not continue and everyone waited for word on Damar’s condition. Prayer was one of the few things people could do and pray they did.

Over the following days, an outpouring of love and support came from every direction and Damar’s modest fundraiser that had a goal of $2,500 for toys for needy children raised more than $8 million. That is something good, of course, but hopeful news about Damar’s condition was better than $8 million.

Each day the news improved – he was improving, he was awake and asked “did we win”, he was neurologically intact, he was holding hands with his family, he was breathing on his own, he talked to his team. Then yesterday he started tweeting.

While Damar has a long road ahead of him and his future in the NFL is uncertain at this point, the fact that he survived and is aware of the outpouring of love his collapse prompted is an answered prayer and that is something good.

Now it’s your turn… Tell me something good!
