Van Halen was a highly prolific hit-making machine. With that in mind, the criteria to make it onto this playlist shall be: the song must be an eighties Top 10 from the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart. (There’s no point in considering the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, as Van Halen songs invariably charted as high or higher on the Rock chart than the Hot 100 chart, unless they did not chart at all.) If we included the nineties, the length of the playlist would more than double and we’d end up with a playlist of nearly 30 tracks. So, no naughty nineties for now. Maybe if The People demand a VH nineties Night Owl follow on…
