Today’s something good is a young hero.
Dillon Reeves, a seventh grader in Michigan, saved lives when he intervened to safely stop his school bus when the bus driver had a medical emergency. The bus driver became lightheaded and radioed for help before passing out, according to ABC. Dillon kept his head as the bus started veering into oncoming traffic. He steered the bus off the road, carefully bringing it to a stop so as to not injure his fellow passengers. On the video, he is heard telling the other students to call 911.
Dillon’s dad told reporters that “we have a little hero”. Warren Consolidated School District Superintendent Robert D. Livernois called Dillon’s actions “an extraordinary act of maturity and courage”. He said he had never, in all his 35 years in education, seen such bravery from a student.
When Dillon’s mom asked him how he knew what to do, how he knew how to drive the bus, he told her that he had watched the bus driver drive every day.
Dillon is being lauded as a hero by the community and will receive a commendation from first responders for his bravery and quick thinking. The bus driver is still in the hospital, receiving medical treatment and testing.
