The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good.

Today’s something good is a pawsitively grand birthday.

Dr. Robert Moore, retired dean of sciences and applied arts at San Jose State University and huge dog lover, got a very special present for his 100th birthday: a dog parade. His daughter, Alison, put a request on Nextdoor asking folks to bring their dogs so Dr. Moore could enjoy them in a parade. They expected a few dogs on the big day but the response was far greater than they anticipated.

More than 200 dogs – they lost count – lined down the street and around the block to have their moment with the birthday boy. The pups were dressed up in tuxedos, cowboy hats, and other costumes. One lady didn’t have a dog but brought a stuffed animal in lieu of the real thing. A Samoyed showed up in a classic car and several disabled dogs arrived in wheelchairs. Dr. Moore greeted each dog and not only got to pet every single one but knew the breed of each one.

“My father, he was so touched. He pet every single dog that came through. Every person brought the dog up to him. It was so lovely,” Alison told NBC Bay Area.

Dr. Moore’s family – three children and five grandchildren – were touched by the response. The majority of people in the parade were strangers, who jumped at the opportunity to make Dr. Moore happy. These strangers not only brought their dogs for him to enjoy but they brought balloons, flowers, posters, signs, cupcakes, and gifts. The Moore family was thrilled.

Noting that most of the parade consisted of strangers, Alison said, “It just makes you feel wonderful about your community, that people would come out and do that for the dad you love so much.”

A puppy parade would be something good for any birthday but especially for a milestone like a 100th birthday! Now it’s your turn… Tell me something good!
