I’m still working on the craft studio. We had some unforeseen complications that caused delays, but we’re back on track.

During the delays, I’d purchased shelf units, and there were times as I sat in the back bedroom I’d managed to get hubby to agree to let me use for the studio, I had niggling doubts that maybe all the shelf units, as well as the work table in the center of the room weren’t going to fit. But I pressed on.

On Monday we started measuring and… yeah. If everything could fit, it would be a really tight squeeze. As we sat in our bedroom, we were talking about the layout for the studio and even he was starting to have doubts, he looked around our bedroom and said, “There’s lots of space in here. Plenty of wall area for your shelves and space for a big work table.

(You may recall that having the big work table to lay out patterns on was the main reason for me getting the back bedroom; so it was a non-negotiable item that required a place in the studio.)

Now, I’ve done some of my photography and all of my videos in our bedroom, because it has the best natural lighting in the house. And there were moments when I’d wish I could use that space as my studio, but I never would’ve asked him for that.

However, since it was his idea…

So I asked him, “You’d be okay with us moving into the back bedroom and me using this room as my studio?”

I already knew the answer, because he’s often told me he has no idea why bedrooms are so big if you spend most of your time sleeping in there.

“Sure,” he replied. And then told me about how he thought most bedrooms (including ours) are too big.

We started talking about how we’d lay things out in the smaller room, and he expressed concern the bed wouldn’t fit; I replied, “Let’s go measure and see!” (Because I’m helpful like that. And I didn’t want to lose my new, bigger studio with the great natural light…)

So we did. And the bed, dresser, some bookcases that are already in that room, and the TV will all fit in there quite nicely.

So, the good news, I get a bigger studio. The bad news is that now we have to clear out all three bedrooms to move things around. But, hey… totally worth it.

So that, in a nutshell, is how I got the master bedroom for my studio…
