Israel/Hamas Extend Pause in Fighting for Two Days Tweet

From Monday…

It was reported yesterday that Israel and Hamas agreed to extend the pause in fighting for two more days as more hostages held by Hamas are released, along with more Palestinian prisoners. The pause will also allow more humanitarian aid to enter Gaza…

From Tuesday…

President Biden’s full statement on the pause…

I have remained deeply engaged over the last few days to ensure that this deal—brokered and sustained through extensive U.S. mediation and diplomacy—can continue to deliver results. Thus far, more than 50 hostages have now been released and returned to their families.  Those released include young children, mothers, and grandmothers.  One of them was a little American girl, Abigail, who turned four years old while in captivity after her parents were killed in front of her and she was taken hostage by Hamas terrorists on October 7th.  I spoke with Abigail’s family following her release, and we are working closely with our Israeli partners to ensure she gets the care and support she needs as she begins to recover from this unspeakable trauma.

The humanitarian pause has also enabled a significant surge in additional humanitarian assistance to the innocent civilians who are suffering across the Gaza strip.  The United States has led the humanitarian response into Gaza—building on years of work as the largest funder of humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people. We are taking full advantage of the pause in fighting to increase the amount of humanitarian aid moving into Gaza, and we will continue our efforts to build a future of peace and dignity for the Palestinian people.

Today, I want to again thank Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel, Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar, and President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt for their commitment to this process and in reaching the agreement for an extension over the next 48 hours.  We will not stop until all of the hostages held by Hamas terrorists are released.

“Bidenomics” Supply Chain Tweets

From Monday…

The YouTube is 19 minutes and 14 seconds long. President Biden begins his remarks at the 5 minute and 34 second mark. His full remarks can be found here.

Folks, the result: Today, our supply chains are stronger than ever, with backlogs, bottlenecks, and shipping rates at a 25-year low.  We’ve created 14 million new jobs, including 800,000 manufacturing jobs.

White House.gov. 11/27/2023.

Well, look, all kidding aside, that’s not all.  On Thanksgiving two years ago, 100 container ships were waiting in the docks — to dock on the ports.  They were lined up 100 long out into the ocean.

This year, there were less than 10.

Meaning that today, as folks start their holiday shopping, shelves are stocked.  Meaning that if major appliances, like a stove or a fridge, broke down over Thanksgiving, you can replace it faster and 9 percent cheaper than you did two years ago.

[snip]

And it’s no — they’re no accident.  When — it comes down to supply chains.

White House.gov. 11/27/2023.

I truly believe that 50 years from now, when historians are taking a look at this — looking back at this moment — when they look back on the work we’re doing to build the economy from the bottom up and middle out; to strengthen the American supply chains and manufacturing workers all across the country, they’re going to say that this was the beginning — when America won the competition of the 21st century.

Shooting in Burlington, Vermont Tweet

From Monday…

The names of the three wounded in the shooting were released by their families on Sunday:

Axios reported; Two of the victims are U.S. citizens and one is a legal resident, according to police.

  • Awartani is a Palestinian-Irish-American junior at Brown University and Abdalhamid is a junior at Haverford College. Both students remained hospitalized on Sunday, according to the colleges. Ahmad attends Trinity College, per the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.
  • The three friends “may have been targeted because of their Arab ancestry and identity,” Brown University president Christina Paxson said in a statement to the college’s community shared with Axios Sunday evening in which she said Awartani was “expected to survive his injuries.”
  • The Burlington Police Department said in an emailed statement early Monday that officers arrested [Jason] Eaton following an operation on Sunday involving ATF agents.

Burlington Police Department said that two of the men were in stable condition, while the other man “has sustained much more serious injuries,” according to Axios.

Statement from President Joe Biden on the Shooting in Burlington, Vermont

Jill and I were horrified to learn that three college students of Palestinian descent, two of whom are American citizens, were shot Saturday in Burlington, Vermont. They were simply spending Thanksgiving gathered with family and loved ones.

We join Americans across the country in praying for their full recovery, and we send our deepest condolences to their families. While we are waiting for more facts, we know this: there is absolutely no place for violence or hate in America. Period. No person should worry about being shot at while going about their daily lives. And far too many Americans know a family member injured or killed as a result of gun violence. We cannot and we will not accept that.

Earlier today, I spoke to Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger to offer my support. We are grateful to the Burlington Police Department – as well as the FBI, ATF, and other law enforcement partners – for their swift work identifying and arresting a suspect. Our Administration will provide any additional federal resources needed to assist in the investigation.

Statement from Vice President Harris on Shooting of Palestinian Students in Burlington, Vermont

Doug and I join President Biden, the First Lady, and Americans across the country in praying for the full recovery of the three Palestinian students who were shot in Burlington, Vermont as they traveled to one of their grandmother’s homes during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. We send our deepest sympathies to their families and to all those who have been impacted by this senseless violence.

While the facts of this tragedy are still being investigated, we know that far too many people live with the fear that they could be targeted and attacked based on their beliefs or who they are. We are grateful for the work of law enforcement and will continue to do all that we can to keep our communities safe from both hate and gun violence.
