I’ve spent minutes upon minutes of my life just now looking for one tweet, one that gave just the information we currently have on the bridge collapse…

It was frustrating and sad the number of just straight up garbage posts I’ve seen in those minutes…

I finally closed it out and went to NBC News live updates…

We know that the bridge was struck by a cargo ship that had lost power. The crew aboard managed to send out a mayday which allowed officials just enough time to stop the flow of traffic. Six or Seven people are still missing; 2 have be rescued according to multiple sources.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will travel to Baltimore at some point today.

Shortly after the bridge collapse he tweeted that he had been in contact with local officials.

I’ve spoken with Gov. Moore and Mayor Scott to offer USDOT’s support following the vessel strike and collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge. Rescue efforts remain underway and drivers in the Baltimore area should follow local responder guidance on detours and response.
