The President and First Lady to Host a Juneteenth Concert on Monday, June 10, 2024
The White House announced today a Juneteenth Concert on Monday, June 10. The South Lawn concert will be a celebration of community, culture and music.

Since taking office, President Biden has worked to advance racial equity and ensure the promise of America for Black Americans. See a fact sheet on the Biden-Harris Administration’s ongoing efforts to advance equity and opportunity for Black Americans and communities across the country here.
This concert celebration will also take place during Black Music Month, where the Biden-Harris Administration will uplift American art forms that sing to the soul of the American experience. This event is supported by: The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, Institute for Museum and Library Services, STARZ #TakeTheLead Initiative, Adobe, LVMH North America’s Moët & Chandon and Hennessy USA and will feature:

Jobs Report Tweets
From Friday…
The great American comeback continues.
— President Biden (@POTUS) June 7, 2024
On my watch, 15.6 million more Americans have the dignity and respect that comes with a job, and unemployment has been at or below 4% for 30 months.
I will keep fighting to lower costs for families like the ones I grew up with. pic.twitter.com/4ga0goWTiv
I’m fighting corporate greed – calling on corporations with record profits to lower prices.
— President Biden (@POTUS) June 7, 2024
I’m fighting to make rent more affordable.
I’m fighting to lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs.
And I'll never stop fighting for places like Scranton – not Park Avenue.
Statement from President Joe Biden on the May Jobs Report
The great American comeback continues, but we still have to make more progress. On my watch, 15.6 million more Americans have the dignity and respect that comes with a job. Unemployment has been at or below 4% for 30 months—the longest stretch in 50 years. And a record high share of working-age women have jobs.
Statement from President Joe Biden on the May Jobs Report. 06/07/2024.
I will keep fighting to lower costs for families like the ones I grew up with in Scranton. I’m fighting corporate greed by calling on corporations with record profits to lower prices—as Target and Walmart have for grocery prices. I’m fighting to make rent more affordable by building 2 million new homes. I’m fighting to lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs, like insulin and inhalers.
Congressional Republicans have a different vision—one that puts billionaires and special interests first. The Republican plan would increase inflation by repealing the Affordable Care Act, siding with Big Oil to raise utility bills, letting Big Banks rip off Americans, and blow up the debt by slashing taxes for billionaires. I will never stop fighting for Scranton—not Park Avenue.
BLS.gov reported on Friday that in May non-farm payroll added 272,000 jobs. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.0 percent.
Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 272,000 in May, and the unemployment rate changed little at 4.0 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment continued to trend up in several industries, led by health care; government; leisure and hospitality; and professional, scientific, and technical services.
[snip]
The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for March was revised down by 5,000, from +315,000 to +310,000, and the change for April was revised down by 10,000, from +175,000 to +165,000. With these revisions, employment in March and April combined is 15,000 lower than previously reported. (Monthly revisions result from additional reports received from businesses and government agencies since the last published estimates and from the recalculation of seasonal factors.)

June’s Jobs report will be released on 07/05/2024.

I’ve long said that ordinary Americans can do the most extraordinary things.

I’ve long said that history has shown that ordinary Americans can do extraordinary things when challenged. There’s no better example of that in the entire world than right here at Pointe du Hoc.

Rangers from farms and cities in every part of America, from homes that didn’t know wealth and power, they came to a shoreline that none of them would have ever picked out on a map.
They came to a country many of them had never seen for a people they had never met. But they came, they did their job, they fulfilled their mission, and they did their duty.
They were a part of something greater than themselves. They were Americans.
As we gather in Pointe du Hoc, it’s not just to honor those who showed such remarkable bravery.
— President Biden (@POTUS) June 7, 2024
It’s to listen to them – because they’re challenging us.
They’re not asking us to scale these cliffs or risk our lives.
They’re asking us to stay true to what America stands for. pic.twitter.com/1mIQKx8kr1
The video clip is 55 seconds long.
As we gather here today, it’s not just to honor those who showed such remarkable bravery on that day, June 6th, 1944. It’s to listen to the echoes of their voices, to hear them, because they are summoning us, and they’re summoning us now.
They ask us: What will we do?
They’re not asking us to scale these cliffs, but they’re asking us to stay true to what America stands for.
They’re not asking us to give or risk our lives, but they are asking us to care for others and our country more than ourselves.
They’re not asking us to do their job. They’re asking us to do our job: to protect freedom in our time, to defend democracy, to stand up aggression abroad and at home, to be part of something bigger than ourselves.

We’re the fortunate heirs of a legacy of these heroes, those who scaled the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc. But we must also be the keepers of their mission — the keepers of their mission, the bearers of the flame of freedom that they kept burning bright. That — that is the truest testimonial to their lives — our actions every day to ensure that our democracy endures and the soul our nation endures.

And so, it — you know, I think it — as a measure of a country’s support for democratic values, that they honor those who’ve risked their lives and lost their lives. And think about it. You had this — they were on their way to Paris — Germans. They stopped them here. They stopped them here, just like the Americans on Normandy — the Normandy beach stopped w- — turned the war around. And gives you both a sense of pride and, in my case — and my guess is you as well — a sense of reverence for what they did.

And so, I — I just wanted to — Jill and I wanted to come and pay our respects. And it — it matters a lot.

Wear Orange.org says: On January 21, 2013, Hadiya Pendleton marched in President Obama’s second inaugural parade. One week later, Hadiya was shot and killed on a playground in Chicago. Soon after this tragedy, Hadiya’s friends commemorated her life by wearing orange, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. Wear Orange is now observed every June. Thousands of people wear the color orange to honor Hadiya and the more than 43,000 Americans are killed with guns and approximately 76,000 more are shot and wounded every year.
The next “Wear Orange Weekend” is June 6th thru the 8th, 2025.
