The leaders reaffirmed the special relationship between our nations and the importance of working together in support of freedom and democracy around the world. From Friday…

June’s Job Report was released on Friday by the BLS: Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 206,000 in June, and the unemployment rate changed little at 4.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Job gains occurred in government, health care, social assistance, and construction.

Statement from President Joe Biden on the June Jobs Report:

With today’s report that 206,000 jobs were created last month, a record 15.7 million jobs have been created during my Administration. We have more work to do, but wages are growing faster than prices and more Americans are joining the workforce, with the highest share of working-age Americans in the workforce in over 20 years. That’s real progress for hardworking families who have the dignity and respect that comes with earning a paycheck and putting food on the table.

Too many Americans are still feeling squeezed by the cost of the living. I’m fighting to lower costs by taking on corporate price gouging, capping the cost of insulin and prescription drugs, and calling on Congress to lower rent by building 2 million new homes. Congressional Republicans have a different vision that sides with billionaires and special interests and will supercharge inflation. They’ll impose high consumer tariffs that will cost middle class families thousands of dollars each year,  give a giant tax cut to the wealthy, repeal the Affordable Care Act, and allow big corporations to keep ripping off Americans. While they fight for Park Avenue, I’ll keep fighting for working families like the ones I grew up with in Scranton.

Extreme Heat Tweet

From Friday…

The video clip is 10 seconds long.

Remarks by President Biden on Extreme Weather; the YouTube is 14 minutes and 40 seconds long.

Extreme heat — this is a — I think going to surprise a lot of people — not you all — but extreme heat is the number one weather-related killer in the United States.  More people die from extreme heat than floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes combined.  Say that again: combined.  More people die from heat than those three other major issues.

[snip]

Look, extreme weather events drive home a point that I’ve been saying for so long.  Ignoring climate change is deadly and dangerous and irresponsible.

Medal of Honor Tweet

From Saturday…

The video clip is 1 minute and 25 seconds long.

*Remarks by President Biden at Presentation of the Medal of Honor to Army Private Philip G. Shadrach and Private George D. Wilson; the YouTube is 15 minutes and 46 seconds long.

President Biden:

The very first recipients of the Medal of Honor were a small band known as “Andrews’ Raiders,” named for a spy for the Union Army, James Andrews, who led one of the most daring operations in the entire Civil War.  Every soldier who joined that mission was awarded the Medal of Honor except for two — two soldiers who died because of that operation but never received this recognition

Today, we right that wrong.  Today, they finally receive the recognition they deserve

Private George Wilson, born in Belmont County, Ohio.  In his early 30s, not long after the Civil War began, he enlisted in the Union Army.  He joined the 2nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment.  He was a father, a mechanic, and he was a hell of a debater.  He always was ready to persuade, argue, and, as one family member put it, “dress anyone down” if the need be.

Private Philip Shadrach, born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.  By the time he was a teenager, Philip was an orphan, a laborer — did anything he could to get by.  And from what we know, he was a free spirit, always searching for adventure, excitement, intrigue.  In his early 20s, Philip enlisted, joining the Ohio regiment that George did — the same one.

[snip]

Their heroic deeds went unacknowledged for over a century, but time did not erase their valor.  And they want to fight for — what they fought for and they died is just as precious today as it was then: unity over disusi- — disunion; freedom over subjugation; progress over retreat; truth over lies.

[snip]

For Philip and George and their brothers in arms, serving our country meant serving our country — our country — fighting and even dying to preserve the Union and the sacred values it was founded upon: freedom, justice, fairness, unity.  George and Philip were willing to shed their blood to make these ideals real

Military Aide:

Private Shadrach and Private Wilson’s gallant actions in close contact with the enemy were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon themselves, the Army of the Ohio, and the United States Army.
