The news these days is often depressing at worst and frustrating at best. It’s easy to let it get us down. Never fear… The News Blender has you covered. Once a week we feature Something Good and, in return, all you have to do is tell us something good that has happened to you this week, something you are thankful for, a joke, a cute animal story, an inspiring tale of heroics, a Random Act of Kindness… SOMETHING good!
It’s been a Tell Me Something Good Thanksgiving tradition for several years to report on the unlikely but ongoing friendship between Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton. It’s been nine years since the Arizona grandma thought she was texting Thanksgiving invitation to her grandson but accidentally texted Jamal, a high school student and total stranger. He jokingly asked if he could come anyway, she said yes, and history was made.
It’s been a rough year: Wanda was diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing treatment. Although her prognosis is good and Jamal was hosting, she was unable to make the two hour drive to his house. They connected virtually though and their friendship remains strong.
Their unusual connection gave the country something to be hopeful about in 2016 and will continue to do so for years to come.
Happy Thanksgiving from MY FAMILY to yours 💞We are all wishing @dench_wanda a fast healthy recovery.
